While paper checks are still a mainstay in the payments industry, Bill.com provides small and mid-sized businesses with cloud-based software that simplifies, digitizes, and automates back-office financial processes.
Bill.com interacts with a wide range of customers, including partnerships, financial institutions, accounting software companies, and through direct marketing efforts to SMBs.
As the sole Visual Designer for Bill.com, I worked with the VP of Marketing on a wide range of collateral needs throughout the company.
A year into my role, our new Creative Director and I were realizing the limits of the branding we had inherited. Our company mission to make it simple to connect and do business wasn’t reflected well in our visual strategy, and we proposed a change.
Working with an external agency, we developed a rigorous visual design system that represented our core values of Joy, Simplicity and Empathy. I worked with the marketing, communications, and product teams to manage the rollout of our new branding across all touchpoints.
The Bill.com brand is built for the millions of people who work in—and support—small and medium businesses. These businesses make up the lifeblood of our economy. And we were there to help them succeed. To create the right perceptions, we needed to be: 1) consistent in our execution, and 2) clear about who we are.
Retaining a founding element of the long outdated previous branding, we evolved “The Dot” into a functional visual device that provided clarity on who we serve and a stronger focus on our messaging.
My Role
Visual Brand Identity, Brand Guidelines, Illustration, Iconography, Collateral System
Our entire set of collateral, including case studies, program materials, sales enablement, and social media required a complete visual overhaul. By establishing a streamlined set of communications templates based on existing content structure, in conjunction with a robust visual design system and guidelines, we were able to quickly produce a fully updated set of collateral to be ready in time for the new website launch.
